This isn’t a surprise, but it still pisses me off.

The VLBC condemns & rejects the revisionist draft standards proposed last week by the Gov’s Administration. The VLBC has deep concerns w/the politically-drafted revised standards that literally revise, whitewash & omit important history in schools.

Governor Youngkin’s new history standards require Marc Antony in elementary school but not MLK Jr.
Never forget he kicked Virginia’s Teacher of the Year — Anthony Swann, a Black man — off the Board of Education so he could ram this through. https://t.co/CiLNsKIbpR

Critical race theory was ALWAYS a scare tactic and a front to do exactly this and don’t let them gaslight you about it. It was racist to its core and now they’re clutching their pearls cause they realize but MLK too?
What did YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN https://t.co/KWCAQVobp3

– Removing all technical edits from the 2020 African American History commission
– Refer to the Indigenous people of Virginia as America's First Immigrants (incredibly insulting and untrue)
– Complex concepts like The Code of Hammurabi are required content for 1st grade— Matt Royer (@royermattw) November 16, 2022
– The Fertile Crescent, Mesopotamia, and the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers are now required content for First Grade.
– Third Graders must learn about “Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Hippocrates, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Mark Antony," and other ancient Greeks, and Romans— Matt Royer (@royermattw) November 16, 2022
TL;DR Governor Youngkin would rather score points "defeating the nonexistent epidemic of teaching Critical Race Theory" than to teach Virginia students accurately and improve the test scores he complains about time and time again.

Worst of all, #Youngkin & ilk are harming global competitiveness of our kids & setting them up for failure when they rob them of vital knowledge. Kids in other countries learn more abt America, science, math, & reading skills than our kids do. Parents ok with this are complicit.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but if you try to stop schools from teaching the history of slavery and racism as well as completely erase black Americans who made a huge impact in history such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr or Harriet Tubman, you are a white supremacist.
